City Workers in Harrisburg, Penn. may not get paid this week

City workers in Harrisburg, Pa., may not get their paychecks on Wednesday, though the city does have $1.153 million available to pay about 577 employees this week, Dow Jones Daily Bankruptcy Review reported today. Harrisburg owes payroll company Automatic Data Processing Inc. $13,240 for its services because city controller Dan Miller has declined to sign the check for its services. Miller, an elected official outside the administration, said he had not signed any checks for ADP since March because the city has no contract with the company. Miller said that he would allow the payment for ADP if the administration allows him to discuss electronic internal controls with ADP, but he said Mayor Linda Thompson’s office has forbidden him to talk with the company. The city narrowly avoided defaulting on a municipal bond earlier this month.
